Recycling is one of the easiest ways to reduce waste—but only when done correctly. Incorrect items (known as “contamination”) can disrupt sorting machinery, slow the recycling process, and even cause whole batches to be discarded.
Here are five things you should never put in your recycling cart:
1. Plastic Bags & Film
These tangle in machinery. Instead, take them to a designated retail drop-off.
2. Food-Soiled Items
Greasy pizza boxes, dirty containers, and unwashed jars cannot be recycled.
3. Batteries
They’re hazardous and must be taken to a proper battery recycling location—not curbside.
4. Styrofoam
Unfortunately, it’s not accepted in most curbside programs.
5. Textiles
Clothes, towels, blankets—they all belong at donation centers, not in your recycling bin.
Recycling right protects the environment and keeps your community’s program running efficiently. When in doubt, throw it out—or contact C&C Disposal for clarity. We’re here to help!
