Transfer Station

Nothing says summer like the sizzle of a corn dog, the powdered sugar snowfall on a funnel cake, and the sweet hum of carnival rides. County fairs are a beloved tradition — but they can also generate mountains of trash.

This year, let’s enjoy the fun without the landfill load. Whether you’re a seasoned eco-warrior or just trying to make better choices, here are a few easy ways to be a more responsible fairgoer:

1. đź’§Bring Your Own Water Bottle

Skip the pricey plastic bottles and bring your own reusable one. Most fairgrounds have water refill stations — and if they don’t, now’s the time to ask for them! Staying hydrated doesn’t have to come at the planet’s expense.

2. 🥡 Support Vendors Who Care

Look for food stands that serve their goodies in compostable or recyclable containers. These vendors are making the effort — and your support helps encourage more of them to go green. Bonus points if they skip plastic utensils!

3. ♻️ Sort It Like You Mean It

Recycling bins only work if we use them right. Take an extra five seconds to separate trash, recyclables, and compostables into the proper bins. Not sure? Ask a vendor or volunteer — it’s worth it.

4. đźš« No to Freebie Fails

We all love a freebie — but how many of those branded flyers, keychains, and plastic trinkets actually make it home? Politely decline the clutter and avoid taking anything that’ll end up in the trash 10 minutes later.
